A new report out by the Associated Press shows that Pennsylvania spent $35 million on face shields during the onset of the pandemic.
Officials say they bought the shields because it was the most available personal protective equipment at the time.
In contrast, the Commonwealth spent $22 million on cloth masks and N95, which are considered more protective.
Overall, the AP reports that the Commonwealth spent a total of $110 million on PPE.
