The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education is contemplating a redesign of how the system is structured—but board members are struggling to find a dollar amount that would help accomplish that goal.
Officials met at Kutztown University this week and put forward a motion for a five year, $100 million plan. But the board’s chair Cynthia Shapira proposed changing that plan.
Shapira believes the system overhaul needs $300 million.
“I know you all want to air on the side of not appearing to ask for too much, but I think we can make a case for it,” Shapira said. “I would rather make a case for something that we really need in order to get this done.”
Board members were wary that the state would support that financial commitment and ultimately tabled the proposal.
