The leader of the state’s leading teaching union is calling on the Pennsylvania legislature to create better policy for educators.
Rich Askey of the Pennsylvania State Education Association skipped out on a hearing that was held this week in Harrisburg, calling it a “sham.”
This comes as Askey says districts are dealing with shortages of both full-time and substitute teachers.
The latest data from the Department of Education shows that there has been a 33 percent drop in students enrolled in teaching programs in colleges over a five-year period.
