State health officials are updating the standing order for the opioid reversal drug naloxone.
Acting Health Secretary Dr. Denise Johnson says the order now allows people to carry additional forms of Naloxone to help someone who is suffering from a opioid overdose.
“We’ve expanded recently the standing order to include different forms of Naloxone, including more cost effective, non-prefilled viles with syringes, so individuals can have more options for Naloxone that they may carry,” Johnson said.
Johnson says this is a part of the health department’s effort to get Naloxone into communities across the state.
Recently, the Butler Area School District approved a policy to allow school nurses and police officer to carry Naloxone.
