Along with local elections there were also state judge elections in Pennsylvania that decided the control of lower circuit courts.
For the Supreme Court, Judge Daniel McCaffery defeated Carolyn Carluccio 53.1 percent to 46.9 percent. With this victory Democrats maintain a 5-2 lead in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
The Associated Press reported over $22 million was spent on this election.
The Pennsylvania Superior Court is a lower appellate court in Pennsylvania and Democrats Timika Lane of Philadelphia and Jill Beck of Pittsburgh were elected replacing two Republicans. The 15-seat court is currently tied seven to seven between Democrats and Republicans. But with the mandatory retirement of one judge in January, Democrats will have an eight-seven lead on the court.
Finally, in the nine-seat Commonwealth Court, which hears appeals from county courts, Philadelphia Municipal Court judge Matt Wolf won the bench seat available for this election. That will bring that court to five republicans and three democrats.
