The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 20-10 Sunday in the home opener at Acrisure Stadium. The Steelers came back from a 10-7 halftime deficit, outscoring the Chargers 13-0 over the second half.
Quarterback Justin Fields threw for a season-high 245 yards. He threw for a score and rushed for another. The Steelers sacked Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert twice before he left the game after re-aggravated an ankle injury. They then sacked his replacement Taylor Heinicke three times. Nick Herbig replaced Alex Highsmith after he left with an injury, and had two of the team’s five sacks. The Steelers held the Chargers to 167 total yards, and just 61 yards rushing.
Najee Harris led the Steelers with 70 yards on 17 carries.
The Steelers began their season 3-0 for the first time since 2020. They visit the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday afternoon. Their next home game will be Sunday night, October 6th against Dallas.
The Steelers have a two-game lead in the AFC North. Cleveland lost 21-15 to the New York Giants. Baltimore earned their first win of the season with a 28-25 victory over Dallas.
Cincinnati will host Washington tonight, with two Monday Night Football games scheduled. The Bengals-Commanders kick-off is 8:15pm. Buffalo will host Jacksonville for a 7:30pm kick-off tonight.
