The San Francisco 49ers took advantage of James Conner’s fourth-quarter fumble, and the 49ers escaped with a 24-20 victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The 49ers Dante Pettis’ 5-yard touchdown catch with 1 minute, 15 seconds left, dropped the Steelers to 0-3.
The 49ers had 436 yards of offense compared to 241 for the Steelers and extended drives by converting 6 of 11 third downs.
The Steelers play next against the 0-3 Cincinnati Bengals on “Monday Night Football” in a battle of AFC North foes. The Steelers are winless after three games for the first time since 2013 and are 1-6 on the West Coast during coach Mike Tomlin’s tenure.
ANTONIO BROWN
Antonio Brown is apparently done with the NFL, the wide receiver tweeting yesterday (September 22nd), “Will not be playing in the NFL anymore,” as part of a tweetstorm two days after he was let go by the New England Patriots in which he took shots at Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Days after the Patriots signed Brown to a one-year deal earlier this month, a former trainer filed a lawsuit accusing him of rape. He still played in a game for New England after that, but was released after the team found out he tried to intimidate a second woman who accused him of sexual misconduct. In tweeting about Kraft and Roethlisberger yesterday, Brown, who played all nine previous years of his NFL career with the Steelers, was trying to claim the NFL had been more lenient towards others accused of sexual misconduct. He said about Kraft, who was arrested in connection with a prostitution and sexual trafficking sting in a Florida massage parlor: “Different strokes different folks clearly.” Of Roethlisberger, who was suspended for four games in 2010 after he was accused of sexual assault for a second time, Brown tweeted: “4 games for Big Ben crazy world I’m done with it.” But by several hours later, Brown had deleted those tweets and others from yesterday, including one in which he appeared to condone threats against a Sports Illustrated writer whose article included the allegations that led the Patriots to release him. He only left the one in which he indicated he’s through with the NFL and will fight the Patriots’ for a $9 million signing bonus they’d agreed to.
