The Pittsburgh Steelers selected an offensive lineman with their first pick in the NFL draft last night for the second straight year for the first time in team history. The Steelers made Washington lineman Troy Fautanu their top selection with the 20th pick of the first round in Detroit. A first-team All-Pac-12 Conference selection who started all 15 games last season at left tackle, Fautanu won the Joe Moore Award last season as a member of the nation’s top offensive line unit. He shares the first name of his favorite player growing up as a football fan, in Troy Polamalu. (Fow’-tawn-oo)
Offensive selections were on display last night as the first three picks were quarterbacks, and five players from that position were among the first ten picks. A defensive player was not taken until the 15th pick by Indianapolis. The draft continues tonight with rounds two and three beginning at 7pm.
The Steelers have three picks tonight. One in the second round and two in the third round.
