Stephen L. “Steve” Blatt Sr., 76, of Fenelton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at LifeCare Hospital in Natrona Heights.
Stephen was born in Fenelton on October 10, 1941. He was the son of the late Leo P. and Irene M. Hohn Blatt.
He was a 1959 graduate of Butler High School. Stephen served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Stephen was a long time active member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville and a member of the Happy Hunters Club in Fenelton. Steve was well-known in the local area for selling Christmas trees which he did for more than 50 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, vacationing at the beach, and the company of his family.
In his earlier years, he had been employed at Pullman Standard in Butler and retired following more than 20 years of service as a carpenter with the Butler School District.
Steve is survived by his wife, Alice F. Denny Blatt, whom he married at St. Mary’s Church in West Winfield on October 3, 1964.
Also surviving are two children, Stephen L. Blatt Jr. and his wife, Rachael, of Athens, OH and Suzanne S. Shields and her husband, Carl, of Butler; seven grandchildren, Willow, Olivia, Alexandrew, Christopher, Nicholas, Zachary, and Jacqueline; two brothers, Harvey Blatt and his wife, Mary Lou, of Fenelton and Francis Blatt and his wife, Karyn, of Butler; four sisters, Evelyn Denny and her husband, Raymond, of Fenelton, Lois Nini and her husband, Eugene, of Butler, Florence Spahn of Butler, and Mary Molczan of Erie, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Leo.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday from St. John Roman Catholic Church, 668 Clearfield Rd., Fenelton, with the Rev. Matt McClain, church pastor, officiating.
