A new bill has passed through a state Senate committee that would ban governments and school districts to require the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Republican supported bill passed 6-4 along party lines in the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. The bill would see places like state agencies, counties, municipalities, and school districts not be allowed to require people to have the vaccine to enter the building.
Sponsors of the bill say that requiring a vaccine is an intrusion into medical privacy. Meanwhile critics argue that districts already require vaccines for measles and rubella, and that the COVID-19 vaccine would make schools safer.
However, the bill does not prohibit private businesses from mandating a vaccine.
