Chain retailer Payless ShoeSource- which offers discounted footwear and accessories for kids and adults- is set to close all of its stores.
Liquidation sales started Sunday, and all 2,100 stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico will close in the next couple of months.
There is a Payless inside the Clearview Mall in Center Township. An employee said Monday the store will close sometime between March and May. Five employees will be out of a job, though at least three of them have other jobs, according to the employee.
Two years ago, the Kansas-based chain initially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
When Payless closes, that will mean yet another empty storefront inside the failing Clearview Mall in Butler County. This is poor news but the storefronts have been in decay for a while now. Before new settlers arrive in this shop spaces, it might be wise to rejuvenate the appearance of the stores with new glass doors and storefronts. On Monday, there were at least 21 empty storefronts, including one anchor store spot.
