The 3rd annual ‘Overdose Awareness Candlelight Walk’ was held Wednesday night and over 100 participants joined together to remember those who have been lost.
A short service began at 7 p.m. followed by comments from a speaker. Candles were lit then the walk traveled out of Grace at Calvary Lutheran Church and down Main Street.
As part of the ceremony, the names of those who have died locally as a result of addiction were read continuously in a list that spanned nearly nine minutes. Hope for Broken Hearts sponsored this event. They are a support group for families dealing, first hand, with addiction and they meet at Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church every Tuesday.
Butler County Commissioner Leslie Osche reminded those in attendance of a noted author speaking next week (Oct 10 from 7 to 9 p.m.) on the campus of Butler County Community College about how the opioid epidemic came into being. This event is open to the public and there is no charge to attend.
