Susan Elaine Layden, 64, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Born on May 9, 1960, Susan spent her childhood in the nurturing environment of St. Patrick’s, and later attended Venango Christian High School, graduating in 1978. She pursued higher education at Slippery Rock State College, and achieved a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, which laid the foundation for her successful career.
Susan devoted many years to serving as a Program Assistant/FOIP Tech for the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. Her dedication to her role was evident in her meticulous work and the respect she earned from her colleagues.
A woman of faith, Susan was a longstanding member of St. Patrick’s Church in Franklin, PA, where she participated actively in community and church activities. Her hobbies included genealogy, working with stained glass, and gardening, each of which she approached with a keen eye for detail.
Susan was a passionate cat lover, a trait that endeared her to fellow animal enthusiasts. Her love for animals extended beyond her pets, reflected in her choice of the Venango County Humane Society for memorial contributions.
She is survived by her brother, Michael of Rouseville PA, and was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elaine Layden.
