The man who was the subject of an hours-long manhunt in Cranberry Township was shot and killed by police.
According to an update from state police, the man was identified as 37-year-old Logan Cumberland of Ellwood City. Police say he was shot-and-killed by officers in a wooded area near Freshcorn Road.
It began around 10:30 a.m. at the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course when a employees found a man in a vehicle near the entrance to the course.
“These employees recognized there were weapons inside the vehicle at the time. Specifically seeing long guns and a weapon described as an AR-style long gun,” Cranberry Chief of Police Kevin Meyer said.
When police arrived, they did confirm multiple weapons along with other concerns according to Meyer.
“Inside they could see long guns. Additionally they also saw notes inside the vehicle that were extremely concerning to the officers indicating this man was not mentally stable,” Meyer said.
Police say the man was armed with a rifle whenever they found him in the woods near the golf course just after 3 p.m. Officers confronted Cumberland and he was fatally shot.
State police and the Butler County District Attorney’s office is currently investigating.
