A local student musician has been named this year’s winner of the Butler County Symphony Orchestra Collegiate Concerto Competition.
Slippery Rock University flautist Kalista Heidkamp was announced as the winner of the instrumental category as well as overall winner of the competition, which was held virtually this year.
A baritone from Indiana University of Pennsylvania won the vocal category. Both winners were chosen by judges from among audition tapes submitted by students at SRU and IUP as well as Westminster and Grove City Colleges.
The winners will both receive a professional video recording of their piece and Heidkamp will also receive a $400 prize in addition to the recording.
