The Slippery Rock University football team announced its 2021 recruiting class with the addition of three transfer students that are already enrolled and 12 high school seniors that signed national letters of intent Wednesday on National Signing Day.
The 15-person class is smaller than The Rock’s typical yearly recruiting class due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. A majority of SRU’s 2020 seniors have elected to return for their final year of eligibility in the fall of 2021, limiting the amount of roster spots available. The NCAA is allowing student-athletes the option to retain an extra year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
One of the dozen recruits was a local student-athlete in Karns City tight end Nathan Waltman. The three-year starter for the Gremlins earned All-State honors at both tight end and linebacker as a senior – and was also named the District 9 defensive player of the year last season.
