This weekend marks the 35th anniversary of a deadly tornado outbreak that stuck parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, and Ontario.
National Weather Service records indicate there were more than 40 confirmed twisters overall the evening of May 31, 1985.
One of the most violent tornadoes touched down first in Beaver County, and then swept across southern Butler County cutting a path of destruction and killing nine people.
There were four deaths in the Saxonburg area, 2 in Evans City, 1 in New Sewickley, and 2 in Beaver Borough.
The violent weather began around 8 o’clock in the evening—35 years ago this Sunday.
