Born January 30, 1941 in Butler, he was the son of the late Elmer S. and Florence (Leeper) Olson.
Tom was a 1958 graduate of Butler High School, and went on to receive his bachelor degree from Oberlin College. He served his country honorably in the Army National Guard. Tom was an insurance agent for Baltimore Life for a number of years. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Apollo where he served as organist for 40 years, and also played for numerous weddings, funerals and military services. He loved to fish, enjoyed playing golf and going bowling, and following all Pittsburgh Sports.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Kirkpatrick) Olson, whom he married on November 14, 1964; three sons, Robert E. (Kathleen) Olson of Butler, Eric L. (Lisa) Olson of Sarver, and Steven P. (Taryn) Olson of Sarver; his grandson, Blake Thomas Olson of Sarver; his step grandson, Ryan Notaro of Fairview, PA; his step great granddaughters, Violet and Mia Notaro; two sisters, Signe Mitchell of Butler and Carol (Dr. Jay) Johnson of Middletown, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Alfred Mitchell.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 10-11 AM on Friday, January 17, 2025, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 214 N Pennsylvania Ave, Apollo, PA 15613. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Phil Ramstad officiating.
