Thomas Ley, 74, of Butler, formerly of East Liberty, Pittsburgh, passed away Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Butler Memorial Hospital after a courageous four plus year battle with Multiple Myeloma.
He was born June 23, 1947 in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Wilbert “Buck” and Maria (DeMarco) Ley.
Tom graduated from Central Catholic High School. Tom retired from Steamfitters Local #449 in February of 2011. He was proud of his time spent as a welding and apprentice instructor for his union. He also taught CWI classes around the country for his international union. Tom served 6 years in the US Army Reserves becoming a Staff Sergeant. Tom loved golfing with his wife and friends and missed this more than anything after his diagnosis when he was no longer able to stand. Tom was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 49 years, Phyllis E. (Worthing) Ley; his children, Todd (Belinda) Stazer, Tammy Gast, Tricia A. O’Connor, Tim (Dana) Ley, and his 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 with Mass of Christian burial on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Interment in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
