Beau Titsworth of Pittsburgh won the 116th West Penn Open Thursday with a final round 69 at Valley Brook Country Club in Canonsburg. He finished the three-day tournament at 16-under following rounds of 69-62 and 69. Titsworth was three strokes better than T.J. Howe of Bellefonte and took home the top prize of $7,200.
Butler’s Rob McClellan finished eighth overall following a final round of 68. He was eight strokes behind the winner.
The British Open championship is continuing today with the second round at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. J.B. Holmes led the first round with a 5-under 66. Shane Lowry was a stroke back. 13 players are two stokes back at 68.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are near the bottom of the field and will need strong second rounds to make the cut. Woods shot an opening round 78. McIlroy shot a 79.
