PennDOT officials say traffic on I-79 is quite congested as thousands travel north for the solar eclipse.
With an estimated 200,000 travelers expected to head to Erie to view the eclipse, officials say that’s leading to travel challenges in the northbound directions.
There are reports of heavy traffic in Cranberry, Zelienople, and the Portersville interchanges.
Those not driving north are encouraged to avoid the area.
PennDOT and police are also reminding drivers to not park on the interstates or other highways to view the eclipse, including the shoulders, medians, or crossovers.
