The pandemic has led people to explore outdoor activities over the past few months, and that includes the state’s system of trails.
Whether it’s for walking, hiking, or biking, Alex McDonald of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says the growing popularity of the trails is in part because of those at the local level.
“It’s really the volunteers who help out. There are some park employees, townships, or municipalities that take care of the trails,” McDonald said. “It’s not something that comes from the state, and the state takes care of it. It’s really a local effort.”
McDonald said the state is working to help local trails whether that’s through grant funding or other resources.
