The Butler Transit Authority will receive federal and state assistance as they purchase three new vehicles.
At a cost of nearly $800,000 the Authority board approved the purchase of a MCI 45 Coach CNG bus identical to the five they currently use to provide commuter service to and from Pittsburgh. The Federal Transportation Administration is expected to approve this expense from over $3 million dollars the Authority received in COVID relief funding. The bus is expected to be received about a year from now.
The Authority is also planning to purchase a new pickup truck at a cost of nearly $49,000 along with a new Ford Escape at a cost of just over $27,000. The vehicles will be purchased from Schultz Ford in Wexford as the lowest of three bids received. 80% of the cost will come from federal funding with the remaining 20% from state and local matching money. Both vehicles replace vehicles that have exceeded their usefulness but those vehicles will be sold. The truck will be used for maintenance while the Escape will be used by staff.
