A local organization is helping to make improvements at a Butler City park.
Volunteers joined representatives from Penn State Extension to plant nearly 80 trees at Ritts Park Friday afternoon.
According to Justin Mansberger of Penn State Extension, many of the trees being planted are considered “multi-functional”:
“They were interested in getting some multi-functional trees in here in order to do some programming so some of the trees like Maple would have the possibility of maple syrup programming and some other fruits as well that grow from the trees to do programming.”
Butler City recently received a state grant of nearly $125,000 to make upgrades at Ritts Park as well as a $7,500 grant from Butler County.
