For the 36th time this year a gun has been discovered at a TSA checkpoint, which is a six-year high.
A Uniontown man was discovered to have a 9mm handgun in his carry-on bag hours after it was announced that Pittsburgh International Airport had tied a six-year high. This was the sixth gun discovered in the last 10 days.
TSA officials say if you “bring a gun to our checkpoint and you will face a stiff federal financial civil penalty that could cost you thousands of dollars.”
Federal penalties for bringing weapons into the airport can run as high as $15,000 depending on circumstances.
Passengers are allowed to travel with a gun if they are unloaded, packed in a hard-sided locked case, and taken to the airline check in counter.
