The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission made its final multi-million dollar transit payment to PennDOT this week.
A $450 million payment was made to complete a nearly $8 billion bill that the Turnpike Commission had to pay over the last 15 years.
Richard Dreher is the Turnpike’s chief financial officer and he now hopes the financial flexibility will allow for more project investment.
“This will allow us to start investing back into the system and into our infrastructure,” Dreher said. “However the sunsetting of this act does not put us on the same shore footing that we had back in 2007.”
The Turnpike Commission’s payment to PennDOT now moves to $50 million per year.
