With the price of driving the Turnpike going up yet again next year, officials are encouraging drivers to sign up for an EZ Pass to help cut travel costs.
Turnpike spokesperson Carl DeFabo says a majority of drivers do have an EZ Pass, and that they see significant savings.
“EZ Pass customers which represent about 85 percent of our travelers, some of those folks are saving as much as 60 percent, or nearly 60 percent on each trip,” DeFabo said.
There is a big price difference between EZ Pass and toll-by-plate. A drive from Butler to Pittsburgh on the Turnpike costs $2.70 using EZ Pass; but goes to $6 if you use toll-by-plate.
EZ Passes can be purchased at AAA stores in the state.
