Drivers who commute on the Pennsylvania Turnpike are now paying about five percent more than they did last week.
The rate hike went into effect Sunday, which sees drivers pay anywhere from 10 to 30 cents more than they did last year.
E-Z Pass users will see an average toll rate increase from $1.80 to $1.90. Toll-by-plate drivers will jump from $4.40 to $4.70.
The increase is mandated by law according to Turnpike Commission. Officials say that the turnpike is required to pay PennDOT $50 million per year. That number used to be $450 million per year, which left the commission in extreme debt.
