Pennsylvanians typically celebrate the New Year with a couple of traditions like pork and sauerkraut, a glass of champagne, and a hike of rates on the Turnpike.
Beginning Sunday, the tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike are set to rise another five percent. It’s the 15th consecutive year that rates have gone up.
The most common toll for an EZ Pass user will go from $1.70 to $1.80. Toll-by-plate prices will jump from $4.10 to $4.40.
The rise in tolls is expected to continue as the Turnpike Commission remains on the hook to pay the Department of Transportation $50 million annually.
