The cost to drive on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will continue to rise.
The PA Turnpike Commission voted to increase tolls by another six percent in January of 2020. The most common toll for a passenger vehicle using E-Z Pass will increase from $1.40 to $1.50 while cash customers will see a 20 cent increase from $2.30 to $2.50.
Some officials blame the rising expenses on the $450 million annual payment that the Turnpike must make to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) by law. Even with the toll increases, the Turnpike remains in danger of falling behind on roadway maintenance.
This marks the twelfth consecutive year in which turnpike rolls have increased.
