Two local attorneys are vying to become the next judge on the Butler County Court of Common Pleas.
Terri Schultz is an assistant district attorney with Butler County. She began her law career in the county in the early 90s and believes her experience makes her qualified to be a judge.
“I was a public defender for 21 years representing indignant clients and now I’m an assistant district attorney, so I’ve seen both sides of the law,” Schultz said. “I think I’m ready to take that step.”
Maura Palumbi is a public defender for the county. She previously clerked for a Butler County judge and worked in private practice.
“Most people will never come in front of a common pleas judge. But, if they do it’s because they’re going through something that’s pretty difficult and it could be one of the worst experiences they go through,” Palumbi said. “It’s all about making it easier for them as they go through that.”
Both Schultz and Palumbi have cross-filed, meaning they will appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots.
