Two candidates for election to full terms on the Butler Area School Board this fall have been chosen to fill previously open spots now.
The board approved appointing Cecilia Tomko and Phil Heasley to fill the seats vacated by Regenold Griffin, who resigned in April, and Bill Halle, who resigned earlier this month.
The district had nine people express interest for the positions, with eight speaking at the meeting Monday night about what they would bring to the board. Tomko spoke about her passion as an educator and volunteer while Heasley spoke about connecting with local families as a business owner.
Both of these terms run through December of this year; however both of the candidates chosen are in the top five of those receiving votes in the primary election so they both have a good chance of being elected to continue for a full term.
