The fight to combat the spotted lanternfly in Pennsylvania will now include help from the federal government.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture just awarded over $6 million in funding to Pennsylvania—which Carlos Martinez of the USDA says shows the department years-long commitment to help fight the spotted lanternfly.
“We’ve established five offices here in the state, we continue to have 32 employees who are embedded with Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture staff to cooperatively battle this pest,” Martinez said.
Martinez said that the USDA has spent $100 million on battling the spotted lanternfly since 2017.
