September is Suicide Prevention Month and the Butler VA is hosting a couple of programs to help veterans who are struggling.
The VA is offering veterans and their family members a chance to view The Ripple Effect on September 21st at 2 p.m. There will be a Walk to Remember resource fair that happens on September 28th.
All the events are targeted to help bring down veteran suicide rate.
VA officials say there was a “meaningful decrease” in veteran suicides in 2019 and 2020, but the suicide rate among veterans is still 57 percent higher compared to non-veteran adults.
The last available data in 2020 showed that nearly 45,000 U.S. adults died from suicide, over 6,000 were veterans.
