Local veterans dealing with Lyme disease have been able to take advantage of a treatment opportunity unique across the country.
Butler VA Healthcare System is the first VA facility nationwide to offer veterans a pharmacist-run Lyme disease post-exposure clinic.
Veterans with tick bites receive assistance from a VA pharmacist to evaluate the need to begin preventative treatment and if needed, provide medicine to help prevent Lyme disease. Butler County has had the highest number of cases of Lyme disease in Pennsylvania the last two years.
