A local school district is taking steps to further ensure the safety and security of all students, faculty and staff members.
The Mars Area School District has implemented the Raptor Visitor Management System in all of the district’s school buildings, which will require all visitors to present identification upon entering.
The ID- such as a valid driver’s license- will then be scanned or manually entered into the Raptor system. The visitor’s name and date of birth will be checked against a national database of registered sex offenders. No other data will be gathered and the information will not be shared with any outside agency.
A badge will then be printed to identify the visitor. A visitor’s badge will not be needed for people picking up or dropping off a student or an item in the office.
“When it comes to keeping students safe, it is important to be aware of who is in the district’s buildings at all times,” Superintendent Dr. Wesley Shipley said.
The new system was implemented on Monday.
