As bus drivers wrap up running their dry run routes in preparations for the school year, staffing is low but not near critical condition.
School bus drivers have been one of the occupations hit the hardest by the pandemic. But at Valley Lines Bus Company although they aren’t fully staffed one employee describes staffing as adequate.
Clyde Moore retired from Butler County Prison as a captain shift commander after 20 years. He was hired by Valley Lines as a safety coordinator to help handle bus accidents, workman comp issues, and ensure all safety equipment was up to standard, but now he also drives a bus.
Moore says that not only does he drive a bus but many other employees have double roles.
“The owner of Valley Lines occasionally has to drive. The siblings who are president and vice president both drive a route. Our dispatcher, facility manager, safety coordinator, and some of the mechanics all drive routes,” Moore said. “We all play dual roles here.”
Moore would also say that staffing levels are currently adequate and it would take several employees suddenly leaving having an impact on bussing.
