Vernon K. Crawford, age 90, of Cranberry Twp., peacefully passed away Sunday morning, October 20, 2019 at the Butler VA Healthcare Community Living Center, Butler.
Born June 20, 1929 in Mayport, Armstrong County, he was the son of the late Myron and Ethel Crawford.
Vernon proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War Era, where he was a Gunner’s Mate Third Class on a destroyer ship.
He retired at the age of 55 after his long career with Gulf Oil, where he started in transportation, became a mechanic, and worked his way up to being a supervisor at the Neville Island plant.
He enjoyed retirement for 25 years with his wife, as they loved living in Bartow, Florida, where he enjoyed fishing, reading, and watching Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
He is survived by his children: Steven (Gale) Crawford and LeAnn Kohl all of Cranberry Twp., his grandchildren: Jennifer (Glenn) Cornelius of Cranberry Twp., Michael Crawford of New Stanton, Krystal Kohl of Cranberry Twp., Victoria (Thomas) Bassett of Zelienople; his 9 great grandchildren: Ryleigh, Noah, Caleb, Sawyer, Abel, Savannah, Jaxson, Joseph, and Corbin; his siblings: Myron “Buck” (Jean) Crawford of Shippenville, Jean Smith of Distant, Shirley Kunselman of New Castle, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Jack Crawford who passed away October 2, 2007.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 28, 2019 from 4 to 6pm at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect.
A memorial service will be at 6pm, at the Raisley Funeral Home with Chaplain Rev. Gary Clise, of the VA Butler Healthcare, officiating, concluding with military honors from the Butler Veteran Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Lakeland Memorial Gardens, Lakeland, FL, with his wife.
