Veryl Roy “Pete” Thompson, 90, of Center Drive, Chicora, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Friday morning, January 6, 2023 at Sunnyview Home in Butler.
Veryl was born in Hooker on February 19, 1932. He was the son of the late Cal and Marjory Groom Thompson.
He was a 1950 graduate of Concord High School. Pete was a devoted Christian and a founding member and long time deacon of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Butler. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed for nearly 40 years at Armco working in the maintenance department and boiler house. In his earlier years, Pete enjoyed hunting and camping. He was a “jack of all trades” and was always ready, willing, and able to help family and friends.
Veryl was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel A. Neyman Thompson, whom he married in Hooker on September 19, 1952. Mrs. Thompson passed away on July 17, 2019.
He is survived by his children, Penny Boulanger and her husband, David, Jason Thompson and his wife, Robin, and Todd Thompson and his wife, Jennifer; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Joe Kepple, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Veryl was preceded in death by a daughter, Fawn Thompson Waller; a great granddaughter, Rachel Nicole Biedenbach; four sisters, Audrey, Barbara, Edice, and Joan, as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 771 Mercer Rd., Butler, PA 16001. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the church with the Rev. John Barkley, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be beside his wife at Concord Cemetery, Concord Twp., military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Butler Honor Guard.
