As summer gets underway, the concern for ticks grows.
The primary concern for many is making sure yourself, or your family, doesn’t get bit…but how can you protect your animals?
Dr. Dennis Daman, from the Suburban Animal Clinic in Butler, says it’s been an extremely busy season so far with ticks and animals:
“Sometimes people don’t even know their animal has been bitten by a tick until you point it out to them,” Daman said in an interview. He said lately, he’s seen a lot of stray cats that have been bitten by ticks around their eyes.
Daman says there are things you can do as a pet owner to protect your animals against ticks and Lyme Disease.
“You should protect them both internally- through a vaccination- and externally- through one of the tick prevention patches- that are available,” he said.
He says most vaccinations are very effective if you keep up with them.
