It’s shaping up to be a beautiful day in the neighborhood tomorrow as a virtual birthday celebration will be held for Mr. Rogers.
The event will be streamed online in celebrating the Pittsburgh television icon’s 93rd birthday.
In anticipation of Rogers’ birthday, Mars Mayor Greg Hartung, who got to know Rogers through his Presbyterian Church, says his ability to connect to children is what made Rogers such an effective host.
“Just him thinking outside of the box and putting himself in those kids shoes. So I think that made his TV show different because he brought his experience of being educated in the Pittsburgh seminary,” Hartung said. “So he was really a pastor as host of a children’s show.”
The birthday celebration will also be in honor of Rogers’ late wife Joanne. It starts at 11 a.m. and is hosted by Tom Bergeron.
It can be streamed at ThankYouMisterRogers.com, Facebook (@ThankYouMisterRogers) and on YouTube (youtu.be/3zVIgfWe0-U).
