If you are trying to figure out how to get your taxes done, a local organization can help you file.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a service that does your taxes for free if your gross household income under $60,000.
Registration begins next Tuesday. To sign up, you just have to call 211 and select option 1. There are locations in Butler, Cabot, Cranberry Township, Kittanning, and Slippery Rock.
Volunteers are IRS Certifies tax preparers and received in person training for filing their taxes.
Phil Schmeltzer is the VITA Coordinator shares with what he views as most important when getting assistance.
“The one thing they’ll be asked and I can’t emphasize enough, is to make sure that you have all of your tax statements for the 2023 tax year,” Schmeltzer said. “If someone comes in and doesn’t have everything, we won’t be able to complete return and they have to come back.”
“It prolongs the process, so having everything is always really helpful.”
