One of the nation’s largest retailers is about to make some changes to their policies about firearms.
Walmart will stop selling certain kinds of ammunition including short-barrel rifle ammunition like the .223 caliber and the 5.56 caliber which are commonly used in some hunting rifles but also in large capacity clips on military-style guns. Walmart will also no longer sell handgun ammunition.
Walmart is also requesting that shoppers no longer carry open firearms in stores, even in states that would allow them, except for law enforcement officers. Employees will communicate this new policy in a non-confrontational way to customers when necessary.
These actions come after a deadly mass shooting last month at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas as well as a different incident just days earlier at a location in Mississippi.
