Walter “Chip” H. Grubbs, Jr., also known as Dad and Pappy, of Butler, PA passed from this world on October 19, 2023. Chip was born on August 19, 1955 to Walter “Skip” and Rita Grubbs in Pittsburgh, PA. He married the love of his life, Janice (nee Bayne), on November 10, 1973; they were just weeks from celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Chip was a dedicated father to Amy Jo Jenkins (Jeff) of Roland, AR and Matthew Grubbs (Ely) of Katy, TX and grandfather to Charlotte and Zachary Grubbs of Enon, OH.
Chip was a graduate of Deer Lakes High School (Class of 1973) and recently attended his 50th class reunion. He worked in telecommunications at Duquesne Light Company for 42 years, retiring in April 2016.
Chip dedicated his life to fiercely loving and providing for his family, friends, and neighbors. He worked tirelessly to provide for everyone’s needs. Chip was a member of the Burnt Ridge Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with friends and family, passing along his skills and knowledge to all generations. Chip loved riding motorcycles. He and Janice rode together across the country to California, across Canada to Alaska, and to Nova Scotia. After retirement, Chip and his neighbors served others by cutting up downed trees; they affectionately referred to themselves as the “Tree Cutting Gang” and enjoyed the camaraderie to the fullest.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents, Walter “Skip” Grubbs and Rita Grubbs (nee Holland). He is survived by his wife, Janice Grubbs (nee Bayne), children Amy Jo Jenkins (Jeff) of Roland, AR and Matthew Grubbs (Ely) of Katy, TX, grandchildren Charlotte Grubbs and Zachary Grubbs of Enon, OH, brother Mark Grubbs (Terry) of Brookfield, MA, sister Pamela Knox (Ben) of Lakeland, TN, aunt Margaret “Peggy” (Don) Kopelic, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham St. from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Funeral Home, Westminster PCA will be presiding. Interment will be at Mount Royal Cemetery.
