The nice weather combined with the time of year is leading to multiple brush fires around the county.
Butler City and Township Joint Fire Chief Chris Switala says it’s important to follow the necessary guidelines if you’re burning over the next few days.
“The main thing is to have adequate clearance,” Switala said. “Usually, you want to have a minimum of 25 feet clearance between where the fire is, and anything that is combustible, whether that’s trees, a shed, or any other structure.”
Switala also says it’s very important to watch your fire the whole time it’s burning.
“Whenever we have days like this, it doesn’t take much for the winds to pick up a little bit, get an ember to carry, and spread the fire,” Switala said.
Switala says if your fire does get out of control, you need to call 9-1-1 and let them handle it, so you don’t endanger yourself.
