The We Care Program in Butler County that was launched to help hospitality workers who were laid off as a result of the latest state measures has seen an extraordinary response.
County Commissioner Leslie Osche says contributions have been rolling in.
“Between CARES funds right now that we’ve been able to redirect and from other contributions, we have crossed the $100,000 mark,” Osche said.
Cranberry Township and Butler Township were two municipalities who opted to transfer their federal coronavirus relief funding toward the We Care program.
She believes that over 1,000 hospitality workers will be impacted by the latest mitigation orders. But she’s also hoping the campaign will provide some positive feelings and relief for business owners and workers.
“The relief money, in the form of gift cards, will be delivered to those owners and managers so they can distribute them to their laid off employees themselves,” Osche said. “Which I think gives them a little bit of a boost. I think it’s just a boost all the way around.”
Osche also thanked the community for contributions to the program.
