Moraine & McConnells Mill State Park will be hosting several events this weekend.
First, tonight from 8 to 9:30 p.m. a program about bats will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Participants can see a bat condo in action and learn about how reporting bat activity can help scientists. Those planning to attend should bring blankets, chairs, flashlights, and bug protection. The restroom facilities at the church will not be open.
The next event is a Bird Walk on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join local bird club members as they discover different types of species & habitats. All skill levels welcome. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking and bring binoculars if you can. Meet beside the Kildoo Pavilion at Mconnells Mill State Park.
Then on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon, the Park Naturalist will lead a program called Glaciers & the Ice Age about how time changed the landscape at McConnells Mill State Park. All ages are welcome on this guided hike on Alpha Pass Trail to the historic grist mill, but the trail is moderately difficult. Meet in the Point Parking lot, wear sturdy shoes or boots, dress for the weather, and bring a snack and water.
Social Distancing Guidelines will be followed and those planning to attend should bring a mask. Pre-registration is required by calling the park office.
