Twelve Western Pennsylvania Red Cross volunteers traveled to Texas to help with Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts.
The Red Cross announced late Friday afternoon that there were seven Red Cross shelters already opened in Texas, with nearly 50 additional shelter facilities on standby.
The Western Pennsylvania volunteers came from Allegheny, Beaver, Erie, Lawrence, McKean, Warren, and Washington counties.
Hurricane Harvey was originally categorized as a Category Four storm, but is currently considered a Tropical Storm. Harvey made landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast late Friday night.
One fatality has been confirmed.
