College Football:
–Pitt is ranked in the nation’s top-25 for the first time since 2022 after the Panthers defeated North Carolina 34-24 on the road Saturday to open ACC play. The Panthers are 5-0 and ranked 22nd this week in the Associated Press weekly poll. Pitt will host California this Saturday for a 3:30pm kick-off.
–Penn State has moved up to the #4 ranking this week after defeating UCLA 27-11. The Nittany Lions are 5-0 and travel to USC this Saturday afternoon.
–Slippery Rock defeated IUP 33-32 on the road Saturday. The Rock scored the game-winning touchdown with just under 13 seconds remaining in the game, and held on for the victory after they were hit with two celebration penalties after that touchdown, and IUP missed a 54-yard field goal attempt as time expired. Slippery Rock had jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half, before the Crimson Hawks mounted a comeback during a capacity Homecoming crowd. The Rock improved to 5-0 this season, and host Gannon for their Homecoming this Saturday.
–Grove City College defeated Bethany 62-22 Saturday. They host CMU for their Homecoming game this Saturday afternoon.
There were four major upsets in college football over the weekend. #1 Alabama lost to Vanderbilt 40-35 and #4 Tennessee lost to Arkansas 19-14. Also, #10 Michigan lost 27-17 to Washington and #11 USC fell to Minnesota 24-17.
