William Grant “Bill” Douthett, III, a lifelong resident of Butler, died early Thursday morning, July 25, 2024. Bill was born on July 28, 1929. He graduated from Butler High School in 1947, received a Bachelor’s degree from Westminster College in 1951, and a Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1952.
Bill owned and operated Douthett and Graham until 1972 and then worked for Pati’s from 1974 – 1984. He was the owner and proprietor of The Store on Main. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrews Presbyterian church serving as a trustee, elder, and treasurer. He was a past president of the Butler Rotary Club, a member for over sixty years, and a four-time Paul Harris Fellow. He also was deeply involved with Rotary International Golf Fellowship where he made many friends.
His hobbies were golf, music, and photography. Lately, his vision trouble introduced him to the love of audiobooks and participation in an experimental visual trial at UPMC in Pittsburgh. He had a deep intellect, a deep faith, and a deep love for the people in his life. He trusted that God is good, all the time.
He is preceded in death by his wife of forty years, Helen Faust Douthett, whom he married on August 9, 1952, and by his son, William Grant Douthett, IV.
He is survived by his son, David Andrew Douthett and daughter-in-law, Molly Whipple Douthett of Charles Town West Virginia; two grandchildren, Meredith Douthett and her spouse, Chris Campbell of Pittsburgh, and Jacob Douthett of Charles Town WV; his sister, Jeanne Wilson of Cabot, PA; longtime companion, Clare Oskin of Oakmont, PA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends will be received on Friday, August 2, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following at 4:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson Street, Butler, PA 16001, with Pastor Merry Meloy, officiating.
Private Burial will take place at North Side Cemetery.
